Food For Thought

Food For Thought is a small daytime takeaway and breakfast counter on Balunie Drive in Linlathen on the eastern flank of Dundee, working the morning and lunchtime trade for the housing scheme and the small industrial-edge premises around the Baluniefield estate. The shop runs the classic Scottish breakfast-roll trade — bacon, sausage, square sausage, egg, tattie scone in soft morning rolls — alongside paninis, baked potatoes, soups, hot pies, sandwiches and a cake-and-traybake counter. The shop has more recently traded under the Smoked Thistle Whitfield badge as an American-style BBQ operation in the evenings, an unusual hybrid which lets the same kitchen pull two different markets out of a single working day. Catchment is the surrounding Linlathen, Mid Craigie and Whitfield housing plus the working-trade lunch custom from the Baluniefield units. The Balunie Drive setting puts it on the bus-route and walking-distance trade for the scheme rather than the wider east-Dundee delivery market.
