Raggas Caribbean Café on Smithdown Road has been one of Liverpool's most consistent Caribbean restaurants since it was founded in 2006 by brothers Gareth and Verdain Griffin alongside chef Ragga. The curry mutton — slow-simmered pieces in a deep gravy spiced with clove and nutmeg — has been written up on the Liverpool's Best Dishes blog, and the brown stewed chicken with rice and peas, jerk chicken, oxtail and plantain all draw loyal custom. Google rates it 4.5 from a substantial review base. Portions are generous and prices described as very affordable. TripAdvisor gives it 4.0 from a wide sample. A genuinely respected Caribbean kitchen that has earned its reputation over nearly two decades.
