Fleet Tandoori

For a taste of India there’s no need to go further than South End Green, that Cosmopolitan part of South Hampstead, adjacent to the heath and where the arty folk rub shoulders with the business world and media types. Just a couple of minutes walk from the 24 bus terminus and South Hampstead station is the Fleet Tandoori, appropriately located at 104 Fleet Road NW3.

Popular with staff from the nearby Royal Free Hospital the restaurant is an unpretentious establishment with a cosy atmosphere and a menu that will delight without breaking the bank. The menu is varied and for starters you could have poppadums with a cool glass of Cobra beer or a glass of wine. You will find the service attentive and discreet allowing for a comfortable chat in private with your partner. The menu has a good selection of chicken, lamb and fish dishes with an array of side dishes to choose from.

Try the onion bahjis which are delicious, they are freshly made and nice and crispy. The sheema kebabs are tender with just the right spicy taste. One of the Tandoori's speciality dishes is chicken makhani which is served in generous portions with a spicy sauce and can be complimented with fresh fenugreek and coriander. To go with your main course why not try the mushroom rice and sag paneer (spinach and cheese) and some fresh garlic bread. When you have finished your main course try one of the many deserts, perhaps a ‘banana boat’; bananas covered in delicious cream and raspberry sauce and then relax with a coffee.
