Wei Wei Chinese

Wei Wei is Huddersfield's only dedicated Szechuan restaurant in the town centre, and the owners — originally from Chengdu — encourage regulars to ask for the full Chinese menu rather than the abbreviated English version. The kitchen's calling card is heat and complexity: mapo tofu, spicy beef noodle soup, dan dan noodles and steamed pork dumplings carry the tongue-numbing ma-la spice that characterises proper Szechuan cooking. Spice levels can be moderated on request. Portions are generous, prices are modest, and the restaurant has built a following among students from the nearby University of Huddersfield who appreciate both the authenticity and the value. Sit-in and takeaway are both available; the room is compact but welcoming. Open most days for lunch and dinner; closed on Wednesdays.
